چکیده

statement of the problem using cbct to determine root morphology minimizes rate of treatment failure and adverse effects, such as gouging and perforations. purpose the aim of this study was to assess morphology of root canals using cbct scans. materials and methods in this cross-sectional study, conducted in the radiology department of hamadan dental school in 2011‒2012, 66 cbct scans were studied. the following data were analyzed: number of roots, canals, canal types and root canal curvature of mandibular central and lateral incisors, canines, first and second premolars and molars and maxillary first and second premolars and molars. data was analyzed with spss 16.0 and descriptive statistical tests. results in this study, all the mandibular central and lateral incisors, canines, second premolars and most of the mandibular first premolars (98.5%) and all of the second premolars and maxillary first and second premolars (63.6% and 65.1%) had one root. all the mandibular first molars and most of the second molars (95.4%) had two roots. all the maxillary first and second molars had three roots. most of the mandibular central and lateral incisors, canines and first premolars and maxillary second premolars had one canal. 65.1% of mandibular second premolars and 87.9% of maxillary first premolars had two canals. most of the mandibular first and second molars and maxillary first molars had three and maxillary second molars had four canals. the majority of mandibular central and lateral incisors, canines, first and second premolars were type i. the majority of teeth, based on dobo-nagy classification, were type i (straight). mandibular second molars had the majority of c-shaped (entirely curved) curvature. conclusion cbct scans are efficacious tools for the diagnosis of root canal morphology and curvatures to increase the success of root canal treatment.

Root Canal Transportation in Canals Joining together: Assessed by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Introduction: Statement of the Problem: Cleaning and shaping are regarded as the most important aspects of root canal therapy and prerequisite for the success of endodontic treatment. Apical transportations can jeopardize the outcome of treatment due to the significant decrease in the sealing ability of root filling material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate transportation in type II c...

Assessing the Prevalence of Pulp Stones by Cone Beam Computed Tomography in a Population in North of Iran

Background and purpose: Pulp stones are calcified masses in the pulp chamber or root canals. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) can identify crown and root anatomy and also detect calcifications which may help to achieve a better diagnosis. The goal of this study was to determine the frequency of pulp stones in CBCT images. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 500 CBCT image...

Anatomic variations of sphenoid sinus from Cone Beam Computed Tomography images in the Iranian population

Aims: Sphenoid sinus is one of the most inaccessible paranasal sinus, and is closely correlated to many vascular and neural structures. Anatomic variation of the sphenoid sinus can complicate surgery in this area. The aim of the present investigation was to define the sphenoid sinus variations and the relevant structures using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: This cross-sectiona...

Classification of bifid mandibular canals using cone beam computed tomography.

The objective of this study was to classify the morphology of bifid mandibular canals and to evaluate their relationship with the roots of third molars, using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The CBCT scans of 75 patients were analyzed and the bifurcations were classified according to Langlais et al. (1985). The relationship of bifurcation and third molars was established according t...

Cone Beam Computed Tomography Study of Root and Canal Morphology of Mandibular Premolars in Indore Population

Knowledge of the variations in root and root canal morphology is mandatory for the success of endodontic treatment. Neglecting to probe, prepare and fill all the canals can lead to failure of endodontic treatment 1 . As a group the mandibular premolars are among the most difficult teeth to treat endodontically, because they have high incidence of multiple roots or canals 2 . Moreover their root...
